What are the lessons that you learned after reading the commencement address of Steve Jobs?

When our facilitator told us to read the commencement address of Steve Jobs I felt excitement because it’s interesting. When I read it, in the first line he said that “You’ve got to find what you love” for me it means that before you decide what you want, first you must find what you love. I admired him most because of what he said that he was never graduated in college, but as we can see him now he is the famous CEO of Apple Computer and of Pixar Animation Studios. And the best things that he said is his three stories.
The first story is about connecting the dots. Like when we first met in our Technopreneurship subject our facilitator told us to connect the dots in just four stroke. But I didn’t got it. In his first story he told that he was dropped out of Reed College, because of some reasons. When he was born her biologically mother was unwed and didn’t finish in college so her mother decided to put him in adoption. And his mother thought that he will be adopted by college graduates, but he was turn into his poster parents where his mother is never graduated in college and his father was also never graduated in high school. So his biological mother refused to sign the adoption papers but his poster parents assure his mother that he will be on college someday. When he was in college he choose the expensive school as the Stanford. But after sixth months he decided to dropped out because of financial problem and he was taking the calligraphy class, to learn about it . Ten years later he was designing the first Macintosh computer. And after they designed it into Mac. This is the first computer which has the beautiful typography. Because he dropped out in other subject and dropped in calligraphy it helps him a lot especially in the personal computers which have the wonderful typography.
Like Steve Jobs said that it is impossible to connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Like what I’ve done in our activity I wasn’t able to connect the dots, because I was looking forward.
The second story was all about love and loss. Steve Jobs really appreciate and of what he have done in life. Because he loved what he do, and we all know that he was the famous technopreneur in the world. By doing the things that you love it can helps you a lot eventhough there are many trials and failures that you encountered in life still you will never give up. Because you beleive that you can strive or do it, you have the courage to have what you want in life. Like Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak started in Apple in his parents’ garage. They work hard and after ten years the Apple company grown from the two of them in a garage into $ 2 billion company with 4000 employees. As the years goes by Steve Jobs was fired and rejected, but still he loved it. And he decided to start over by heaviness of being successful was replaced with the lightness of being a beginner. After five years he started the company neXT and another company named Pixar. In return the neXT was bought in Apple and he returned to Apple. I really appreciate Steve Jobs done, eventhough he was failed, he start a new one. As what he said patience needed, because sometimes life hits you a brick and don’t lose faith according to him. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As will all the matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. And most of all keep going love what you did.
The third and last story is about death. We all know that our life is too short, and we are afraid of death but this is the reality. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to go there according to Steve Jobs. Yet death is the desitnation we all share, and no one can escaped it. Anytime we will die so let’s live to the fullest and do the things that we love. We don’t know when we die because only God knows when. But there are also some who waste their time by doing things that’s not important instead of valueing the moment when they are stay alive.
Like Steve Jobs said that “Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything – all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.” Our time is limited so we don’t waste it living someone else’s life. And most important, have the courage to follow our heart and intuition. And the best things to do is follow what God said, and always beleive in him. Because everything in this world was created by God which is the most is our life and we should be thankful of it. And each of us has different God’s plan. And go back to the commencement address of Steve Jobs I’ve learned everything and I admired him of what he have done.
