Last September 22, 2010, we have visited the one of the newest and famous company here in Davao which is the Sutherland. Sutherland is BPO Company which means Business Process Outsourcing. Business process outsourcing (BPO) is the act of giving a third-party the responsibility of running what would otherwise be an internal system or service. For instance, an insurance company might outsource their claims processing program or a bank might outsource their loan processing system. Given the chance to have your own techno business, discuss it's nature and target clients.
Before our facilitator told us tocreate a techno business we have given a task to make a group into six membersand make a business proposal related in technology. In our group we do firstdiscussing our love, best and irritants. Then after we combined all the best ofwhat we love, best and irritants. But after combining and sharing our ideas wedidn’t easily choose what will be our business proposal. What are the lessons that you learned after reading the commencement address of Steve Jobs?
When our facilitator told us to read the commencement address of Steve Jobs I felt excitement because it’s interesting. When I read it, in the first line he said that “You’ve got to find what you love” for me it means that before you decide what you want, first you must find what you love. I admired him most because of what he said that he was never graduated in college, but as we can see him now he is the famous CEO of Apple Computer and of Pixar Animation Studios. And the best things that he said is his three stories.
The first story is about connecting the dots. Like when we first met in our Technopreneurship subject our facilitator told us to connect the dots in just four stroke. But I didn’t got it. In his first story he told that he was dropped out of Reed College, because of some reasons. When he was born her biologically mother was unwed and didn’t finish in college so her mother decided to put him in adoption. And his mother thought that he will be adopted by college graduates, but he was turn into his poster parents where his mother is never graduated in college and his father was also never graduated in high school. So his biological mother refused to sign the adoption papers but his poster parents assure his mother that he will be on college someday. When he was in college he choose the expensive school as the Stanford. But after sixth months he decided to dropped out because of financial problem and he was taking the calligraphy class, to learn about it . Ten years later he was designing the first Macintosh computer. And after they designed it into Mac. This is the first computer which has the beautiful typography. Because he dropped out in other subject and dropped in calligraphy it helps him a lot especially in the personal computers which have the wonderful typography.
Like Steve Jobs said that it is impossible to connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Like what I’ve done in our activity I wasn’t able to connect the dots, because I was looking forward.
The second story was all about love and loss. Steve Jobs really appreciate and of what he have done in life. Because he loved what he do, and we all know that he was the famous technopreneur in the world. By doing the things that you love it can helps you a lot eventhough there are many trials and failures that you encountered in life still you will never give up. Because you beleive that you can strive or do it, you have the courage to have what you want in life. Like Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak started in Apple in his parents’ garage. They work hard and after ten years the Apple company grown from the two of them in a garage into $ 2 billion company with 4000 employees. As the years goes by Steve Jobs was fired and rejected, but still he loved it. And he decided to start over by heaviness of being successful was replaced with the lightness of being a beginner. After five years he started the company neXT and another company named Pixar. In return the neXT was bought in Apple and he returned to Apple. I really appreciate Steve Jobs done, eventhough he was failed, he start a new one. As what he said patience needed, because sometimes life hits you a brick and don’t lose faith according to him. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As will all the matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. And most of all keep going love what you did.
The third and last story is about death. We all know that our life is too short, and we are afraid of death but this is the reality. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to go there according to Steve Jobs. Yet death is the desitnation we all share, and no one can escaped it. Anytime we will die so let’s live to the fullest and do the things that we love. We don’t know when we die because only God knows when. But there are also some who waste their time by doing things that’s not important instead of valueing the moment when they are stay alive.
Like Steve Jobs said that “Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything – all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.” Our time is limited so we don’t waste it living someone else’s life. And most important, have the courage to follow our heart and intuition. And the best things to do is follow what God said, and always beleive in him. Because everything in this world was created by God which is the most is our life and we should be thankful of it. Like Steve Jobs said that it is impossible to connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Like what I’ve done in our activity I wasn’t able to connect the dots, because I was looking forward.
The second story was all about love and loss. Steve Jobs really appreciate and of what he have done in life. Because he loved what he do, and we all know that he was the famous technopreneur in the world. By doing the things that you love it can helps you a lot eventhough there are many trials and failures that you encountered in life still you will never give up. Because you beleive that you can strive or do it, you have the courage to have what you want in life. Like Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak started in Apple in his parents’ garage. They work hard and after ten years the Apple company grown from the two of them in a garage into $ 2 billion company with 4000 employees. As the years goes by Steve Jobs was fired and rejected, but still he loved it. And he decided to start over by heaviness of being successful was replaced with the lightness of being a beginner. After five years he started the company neXT and another company named Pixar. In return the neXT was bought in Apple and he returned to Apple. I really appreciate Steve Jobs done, eventhough he was failed, he start a new one. As what he said patience needed, because sometimes life hits you a brick and don’t lose faith according to him. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As will all the matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. And most of all keep going love what you did.
The third and last story is about death. We all know that our life is too short, and we are afraid of death but this is the reality. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to go there according to Steve Jobs. Yet death is the desitnation we all share, and no one can escaped it. Anytime we will die so let’s live to the fullest and do the things that we love. We don’t know when we die because only God knows when. But there are also some who waste their time by doing things that’s not important instead of valueing the moment when they are stay alive.
Like Steve Jobs said that “Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything – all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.” Our time is limited so we don’t waste it living someone else’s life. And most important, have the courage to follow our heart and intuition. And the best things to do is follow what God said, and always beleive in him. Because everything in this world was created by God which is the most is our life and we should be thankful of it. And each of us has different God’s plan. And go back to the commencement address of Steve Jobs I’ve learned everything and I admired him of what he have done.

Each of us who were created by our Almighty God has purpose. Everyone has different purpose in life and my purpose in life is just simple:

Reflection or Insights in Personal Traits
When we talk about personal traits it is the dimensions of personality which are used to describe human personality. Traits are distinguishing qualities or characteristics of a person. Traits are a readiness to think or act in a similar fashion in response to a variety of different stimuli or situations. In general, trait theory assumes that people differ on variables or dimensions that are continuous. People are seen to differ in the amounts or quantities of a characteristic rather than differ in the quality of their characteristics. There are five factors of personality. And these are openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism.
I can relate myself in the first personality factor, where is openness which means it is a general appreciation for art, emotion, adventure, unusual ideas, imagination, curiosity, and variety of experience. The trait distinguishes imaginative people from down-to-earth, conventional people. People who are open to experience are intellectually curious, appreciative of art, and sensitive to beauty. They tend to be, compared to closed people, more creative and more aware of their feelings. They are more likely to hold unconventional beliefs. People with low scores on openness tend to have more conventional, traditional interests. They prefer the plain, straightforward, and obvious over the complex, ambiguous, and delicate. They may regard the arts and sciences with suspicion or even view these endeavors as uninteresting. In fact I’m fan of art, I can draw slight, and we all know that our Almighty God gave us different ability or talent. When we talk about emotion I am also sensitive person. And I we all know that have this but in a different manner.
The tendency to show self-discipline, act obediently, and aim for achievement is conscientiousness. The trait shows a preference for planned rather than spontaneous behavior. It influence the way in which we control, regulate, and direct our impulses, and this called conscientiousness. Refer to us we want to fulfill or achieve our individual dream in life. But before we can do it we should alarm in our self-discipline or behavior to what we do.
When we talk about positive emotions and the tendency to seek out stimulation and the company of others is extraversion. The trait is marked by pronounced engagement with the external world. Extraverts enjoy being with people, and are often apparent as full of energy. Seek model and enjoy the company of other people. Be compassionate and cooperative rather than doubtful and violent towards others is called agreeableness. The trait reflects individual differences in general concern for social harmony. Agreeable to individual’s value getting along with others. They are generally considerate, friendly, generous, helpful, and willing to compromise their interests with others. Agreeable people also have an optimistic view of human nature. They believe people are basically honest, decent, and trustworthy. Relating to business we need this kind of behavior. Relating to us as the employer of the company we must know the characteristic of our employee if he/she is an honest or trustworthy person. We can trust them especially in their obligations as an employee to our company.
Negative emotions like, anger, anxiety, or depression is sometimes called emotional insecurity. Those who score high in neuroticism are emotionally reactive and vulnerable to stress. They are more likely to interpret ordinary situations as threatening, and minor frustrations as hopelessly difficult. Their negative emotional reactions tend to persist for unusually long periods of time, which means they are often in a bad mood. These problems in emotional regulation can diminish the ability of a person scoring high on neuroticism to think clearly, make decisions, and cope effectively with stress. For example when were in the situation that our company or our decisions was failed in last, we must not give up. We should always think that we can strive it.
Last July 28, 2010 our facilitator gathered personal traits test and I already thought that it will measure our characteristics. When I saw what the content of the test, it has a situation which is all about entrepreneur that was based when if we are in the situation. And while choosing which situation is best for me it’s already put in my mind that this test will feature what we’ll be in the future if we have the capacity to handle a business or for being an entrepreneur. After we have taken the test our facilitator gave the result of the test that we’ve taken. And I’ve got the score of 43 which means somewhat entrepreneur someday, and I’m happy because I have the ability to become an entrepreneur someday. Which entrepreneurship is the act of being an entrepreneur, which means "one who undertakes innovations, finance and business acumen in an effort to transform innovations into economic goods".

Like how to earn more money, how to manage our own business, to handle employees and many more to become a successful entrepreneur. But being an entrepreneur it is not easy because there are times that we may fail especially in making decisions. Sometimes there are problems that we encounter. But we must not surrender; we must strive to all the problems and make solution of it. We should always think positive and make decisions that can make good to our business.

Technoprenuers continuously go through an organic process of continual improvement and always try to redefine the dynamic digital economy. And this is the why I’m inspired to become a technopreneur. Like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates in the movie of “Pirates of the Silicon Valley” and we all know that they are some of the successful technopreneur that we admired because of their best inventions like computer and for being intelligence.
So, to be an employer you don't need outstanding interpersonal skills, to be good looking, tall, well built, charismatic, a great speaker, highly outgoing or dynamic. Think of the computer techie who leads the field in a specialized software market only by being an outstanding innovator. Also, many leaders do not happen to manage people, so the usual list of people development skills cannot apply to all leaders either. To become a leader, start by finding something new to get excited about. Your excitement will influence people even if you are not normally very influential. To become a good businessman we should have this traits Willingness to stand out, differentiate you risk rejection by being different, a dose of rebelliousness. Determination and perseverance to push through own ideas, desire to find the better ways of doing things, curiosity where is improvement. Not accepting authority, willingness to challenge the status quo. Believing that you can think for yourself and devise a better way, being able to withstand criticism and recover from setbacks. And last being prepared to try things to find what works or learning from mistakes.

Understanding them is the first step toward improving your response to adversity, expanding your capacity, and, ultimately, increasing your overall AQ. Letter C means control, those with higher AQs perceive they have significantly more control and influence in adverse situations than do those with lower AQs. Even in situations that appear overwhelming or out of their hands, those with higher AQs find some facet of the situation they can influence. Those with lower AQs respond as if they have little or no control and often give up. Next is letter O which is ownership, accountability is the backbone of action. Those with higher AQs hold themselves accountable for dealing with situations regardless of their cause. Those with lower AQs deflect accountability and most often feel victimized and helpless. I instead negotiated a less than ideal settlement, but instead preserved my business relationship which continues to bring profitable business. Confidence, if you expect others believe in you, you must believe in yourself, the knowledge, organization, integrity, services, sharing your success and knowledge with others by mentoring. And the most is giving time and money to your family and community.

What are the factors that contributed to the success and failure of Steve Jobs as a technopreneur?
As I watch the movie “Pirates of the Silicon Valley” for me, it is a good example in terms of Technoprenuership especially to us as an IT student to enhance our skills and ideas about technoprenuership. Technoprenuership means entrepreneurship in the field of technology. It is the key to earn money through technology. And it also not easy, because in this kind of industry or business we can’t always assure to our self and business that we always on the top and always the best because there are also other who are hungry for success in this kind of industry.
Back to the question, there are many factors that we can contribute about the success of Steve Jobs. First is his intelligence who have make him realize to invent and develop technologies like computers for the better of the world with his friend Steve Wozniak who is also a co founder of the Apple Company and who is the main inventor of the technology they produced. By the help of his friends to invent it is also another factor that leads to his success because they’re supporting each other’s inventions. Another is his confidence to success, because he is not ashamed of introducing their invention, talking to many people that made their company much known and let their inventions like computers known to the whole world. Steve Jobs is a type of person who wants to be the employer and not to be an employee just what our teacher want us to be someday, because Jobs wants to be the boss of his own company, and he made it and it is the start of their own company with Steve Wozniak and that is the Apple company which is one of the most known company in the world. Apple I is the first computer that Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak invent and it is the start of the real success of Steve jobs. After the development of Apple I Steve Jobs are continuing to develop more computers which can compete with others.
As time goes by, when Steve Jobs reach his dreams, to become rich, and already have his own Company, he is gradually changing and becomes violent to others especially when he has personal problem or not in the mood just like when her girlfriend told him that she is pregnant. Even though the job of his workers was still on process, he destroys it and sometimes he yells to them when his angry and when he noticed that project was not yet finish. When day pass by, Steve totally change, he just wear shorts and shirts. When we look at him especially other people who did not know him maybe they can say that Jobs is not an employer. Like what when his in work and when someone apply for work, he discriminates it and let them feel that their not fit and deserving to be in the company because Steve didn’t just let anyone be accepted especially from the IBM. Steve Wozniak decided to quit and left Steve Jobs in the company because Wozniak didn’t understand the different attitude of Steve, like for being violent to his employees. And Steve Wozniak also leaves the apple company because the management of Steve jobs changes and he can’t understand it. Because of his bad attitude many of his employees got mad of what he had done. And this is one the one reason of his failure. He did not treat his employees well.
So when Bill Gates visits Steve Jobs to his company try to steal the Macintosh computer of the Apple Company, but bill gates didn’t succeed. Bill Gates is so determined to steal the Macintosh to upgrade it and make it their own invention so he try and try, so they talked to Steve Jobs and try to convince Steve Jobs to let them work for him and knowing that they just after for the Macintosh computer and they also try to convince him that they are a big help to apple in developing computers with their expertise. In the first attempt, Bill Gates did not convince Steve Jobs. But when they talk again, Bill Gates convince get the approval of Steve Jobs to work for the Apple Company and delivered them three units of Macintosh computers. Steve Jobs is so moron that he believes that Bill Gates really wants to work for the Apple Company, interested to help him, and Bill Gates is not part of the IBM anymore which is Steve Jobs enemy. And after letting jobs have bill a unit of Macintosh, Steve doesn’t have any idea that bill is developing and upgrading his Macintosh which they call windows which has more applications than the Macintosh that apple made. So when Steve Jobs heard a rumor about Bill Gates developing a project named windows. Steve Jobs still believe in bill gates that windows are just nothing and their not trying to steal from Steve. But Steve’s employee proves that bill gates is just stealing resources from the apple and it’s true that the project of Bill Gates is real and it’s from the Macintosh computer that are just been upgrade. And because of that mistake bill gates are now richer than Steve jobs. And Steve has been fired by the president he appointed from Apple Company because of eliminating the apple team and changes it to Macintosh team which he made. And I learned from him that we must focus on the outcome, learn from our failures and mistakes. But even though he had failures and mistakes he did not surrender. And this is what we called determination to succeed. And as an IT Student it helps a lot to become a good and successful technopreneur someday or maybe now a day.
How do you see yourself as a technopreneur?
Nowadays technoprenuership is not new in our life cycle. When we talk about technoprenuership it is the combination of technology and entrepreneurship which means business through technology. Technoprenuership is the key to earn money with the help of technology.
By this kind of business many people wants to become a technopreneur and I am the one who wants it. As what I’ve observed many of technopreneur was succeed by this kind of business. And technopreneur is an entrepreneur who is technology pioneering, dares to be different and take the unexplored path, and very passionate about their work. They take challenges and strive to lead their life with greater success. They don't fear to fail. They take failure as a learning experience. Technoprenuers continuously go through an organic process of continual improvement and always try to redefine the dynamic digital economy. And this is the why I’m inspired to become a technopreneur.
As of now as an IT student, maybe I can see in the future that I will become a successful technopreneur. Based on the movie that I’ve seen there are lots of ideas that help me to build a business through the help of technology. That being a technopreneur we must focus on the outcome, be knowledgeable, learn from the failures, and do in the right way, and also to be a successful technopreneur I should value my friends especially the one I am working with. On the other hand, I was very inspired by the determination and perseverance of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, and also I would like to emphasize that Bill Gates has the more will than Steve Jobs because his Microsoft is far smaller than Apple and Bill Gates suited his office in Albuquerque while Steve Jobs’ towered in the city.
If I could be a technopreneur, I can say that there is a possibility that I can be like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates who owns a famous company and a manufacturer of high-tech gadgets in the world of technologies. But Being a technopreneur it is big attainment for me, because I maybe have the chance to have same status like Bill and Steve in life, be rich, and be counted as one of the famous businesswoman in the industry of businesses.
But even if I have the ability of being a technopreneur with a bad attitude like Steve Jobs, maybe I may also fall from success like him because like what they say that what you did wrong to others might be also done to you that more worst than what you have done. So we must be humble, and be good to our employees, because a good leader and technopreneur in a company may lead us to the right success even if we might encounter struggles in our company. I can also see myself as technopreneur that I may have also my own company like the Apple Company was owned by Steve Jobs and Microsoft Company of Bill Gates, or other else maybe I can produce high-tech gadgets that will might compete with the Apple Company and Microsoft Company. Or if maybe not that in kind of industry, I may also help in other way that needs technology because a technopreneur is not that easily give up for something especially if it engages technology. Because Technopreneur makes it a point to stay ahead of the game, even though you will fall you will never give up.
As we observed today’s generation especially here in our country there are many businessmen or entrepreneur adopts technology. Like the business of Internet Café, we all know that Internet is demand now entire the whole world because it have many advantages and it help us especially in terms of communication. In other establishment like food chain of McDonald and Jollibee and other food chain they used also technology like computers and the most hit is the WIFI spot. It makes their establishment more costumers will come. Recently McDonald offer online delivery and it is technoprenuership. In other companies they sell gadgets and technology like for example the EMCOR Company they sell technology made. And most that helps a lot is the Internet technology because it’s totally re-defining how businesses are being modelled and how business strategies are being implemented. The residues left behind by this rapid rate of advancement however are small businesses and entrepreneurs who are not equipped and unwilling to embrace new technologies, mainly attributed to the fear of the unknown. And this is what Technopreneur aims to provide with, the latest information on new, emerging Internet technology trends, sifting the build-up from business reality. And will get the inside track on all things Internet technology that will impact the business tremendously. Business and technology are almost always interlinked. Evolution of technology involuntarily leads to evolution in business. With the one who spots technological trends and learns to use it, gains an upper hand over their competition. Because Technopreneur makes it a point to stay ahead of the game, you will receive the newly, most relevant hindsight ahead of time. This will save our time, which we would better spend at what we already do best at – making money. For me it’s yes, because as I watch the movie there are lot of things that inspired me most, to be like him someday. But not all in what he have done, because there are also bad things that he did. By the help of his friends to invent it is also another factor that leads to his success because they’re supporting each other’s inventions. Another is his confidence to success, because he is not ashamed of introducing their invention, talking to many people that made their company much known and let their inventions like computers known to the whole world. Steve Jobs is a type of person who wants to be the employer and not to be an employee just what our teacher want us to be someday, because Jobs wants to be the boss of his own company, and he made it and it is the start of their own company with Steve Wozniak and that is the Apple company which is one of the most known company in the world. Apple I is the first computer that Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak invent and it is the start of the real success of Steve jobs. After the development of Apple I Steve Jobs are continuing to develop more computers which can compete with others.
But when Steve Jobs reach his dreams, to become rich, and already have his own Company, he was changed and becomes violent to others especially when he has personal problem or not in the mood just like when her girlfriend told him that she is pregnant. Even though the job of his workers was still on process, he destroys it and sometimes he yells to them when his angry and when he noticed that project was not yet finish. When day pass by, Steve totally change, he just wear shorts and shirts. When we look at him especially other people who did not know him maybe they can say that Jobs is not an employer. Like what when his in work and when someone apply for work, he discriminates it and let them feel that their not fit and deserving to be in the company because Steve didn’t just let anyone be accepted especially from the IBM. Steve Wozniak decided to quit and left Steve Jobs in the company because Wozniak didn’t understand the different attitude of Steve, like for being violent to his employees. And Steve Wozniak also leaves the apple company because the management of Steve jobs changes and he can’t understand it. Because of his bad attitude many of his employees got mad of what he had done.
And this is the reason why I didn’t follow his all aspects because he shown his bad traits like when he discriminates someone who apply in their company. And sometimes he bring his angry to the company and his employee was mad from him because of his attitude was changed. But even though he has this attitude but I admired him in other way like for being an intelligent he show his ability to develop his invented technology like computer. I will take the same path because if I will be a successful technopreneur I can do also what he did but in the other way. In this way I will be a good employer, good model and good leader to them. Because just what other said that say that “what you did wrong to others might be also done to you that more worst than what you have done”. So we must be humble, and be good to our employees, because a good leader and technopreneur in a company may lead us to the right success even if we might encounter struggles in our company.

And being a technopreneur we must focus on the outcome because people judge us by our performance, so we must focus on the outcome. Be knowledgeable; learn from the failures because sometimes when we innovate, we make mistakes. It is best to admit them quickly, and get on with improving our other innovations, and do in the right way and also to be a successful technopreneur I should value our friends especially the one I am working with. As I watch the movie “Pirates of the Silicon Valley” for me, it is a good example in terms of Technoprenuership especially to us as an IT student to enhance our skills and ideas about technoprenuership. Technoprenuership means entrepreneurship in the field of technology. It is the key to earn money through technology. And it also not easy, because in this kind of industry or business we can’t always assure to our self and business that we always on the top and always the best because there are also other who are hungry for success in this kind of industry.

Steve Jobs is so moron that he believes that Bill Gates really wants to work for the Apple Company, interested to help him, and Bill Gates is not part of the IBM anymore which is Steve Jobs enemy. And after letting jobs have bill a unit of Macintosh, Steve doesn’t have any idea that bill is developing and upgrading his Macintosh which they call windows which has more applications than the Macintosh that apple made. So when Steve Jobs heard a rumor about Bill Gates developing a project named windows. Steve Jobs still believe in bill gates that windows are just nothing and their not trying to steal from Steve. But Steve’s employee proves that bill gates is just stealing resources from the apple and it’s true that the project of Bill Gates is real and it’s from the Macintosh computer that are just been upgrade. And because of that mistake bill gates are now richer than Steve jobs. And Steve has been fired by the president he appointed from Apple Company because of eliminating the apple team and changes it to Macintosh team which he made.
